Dear Editor
I guess I've been pretty
lucky in that I 've never been physi-
cally harmed or verbally abused at
McMurry but the general vibe I
get is not a comforting one.
People want to hear my
story so they can understand what
it is like". The truth is that it's dif-
ferent for everybody in my situa-
tion. There is this stereotype of
what a gay man is but it is wrong.
If you ever go to a gay bar you
would be shocked to see just how
many guys are the boy-next-door
type: super masculine. Apparently
I don't come off as being "that
gay" so people don't bother me. I
feel sorry for the really feminine
guys because they have it so bad.
Having someone call you a fag-
got makes you feel so horrible.
Nobody who isn't gay
could even comprehend the emo-
tions that I go through on a daily
basis. My head is never still. I have
no quiet moments. I'm never at
peace. Everyday it's like "this isn't
me." I'm a control freak and the
fact that I can't control the way I
love kills me. It is something that
I get more comfortable with as
time goes on but I will never be
at peace with it. Can you imagine
having a family that would never
be proud of you if they knew you
were gay? It overwhelms me to
think of how ashamed my parents
would be of me. For the benefit of
the rest of my family I'm going to
have to lead a completely separate
life from the rest of them.
Being gay is like having
the world kick your ass everyday
all day long. It breaks my heart to
think of all the gay guys out there
that kill themselves because they
are so alone. Being gay isn't a
lifestyle it's a life.
Feeling this way makes
me question the presence of a God.
Why should anyone have to suffer
like this? The loneliness is almost
indescribable. Talk is cheap yet
everyone talks about how tolerant
and caring they are. I wake up ev-
eryday and feel like a little bit
more of me has died. I have to try
harder and harder everyday just to
smile.
I don't want anyone cry-
ing a river for me because I have
hope for the future. Things have
to get better because I can't see
them getting any worse.
I hope my letter to the
paper didn't hurt your feelings I
just wanted others to know that I
exist. After all I'm just another
person you pass in the hall on the
way to class. Thanks for hearing
my story; it really makes all the dif-
ference when one person will lis-
ten. Sincerely

ASSAULT continued from

he would have to get a
search warrant before she would
allow him into her vehicle.
Lawrence also reportedly told him
that the containers were from a
previous night and that no alcohol
had been consumed on campus.
Hillary Poole a Delta Beta pledge
then got behind the wheel of
Lawrence's car and drove her
home.
The security officer also
reportedly tried to search Gradine's
Jeep which was parked a few cars
down from Lawrence's.
"He told me to let him
see my alcohol" Gradine said. "I
told him that I didn't know what
he was talking about because I
didn't have any alcohol in my car.
So I got in my car and left."
Gradine also said "There were two
coolers in the back seat but there
wasn't any alcohol in them. The
coolers had cans of Pepsi and
Coke in them from the Rush
party."
According to the
McMurry Security Department
the officer was merely doing his
job which consists of protecting
university property and enforcing
alcohol parking and other judicial
violations. The officer who al-
leges that the women tried to run
him down with their vehicles
charged them with failure to com-
ply with campus security posses-
sion of alcohol and aggravated
assault with a deadly weapon.
Punishment for the stu-
dents issued by the Dean of Stu-
dents consisted of 10 hours of
community service a fine letters
of apology and probation. The
security officer stated that he was
satisfied with the punishments.
