Notes

Photograph of 501 W. Spring taken from the road. Photo was taken for the Historic Resources Survey of Palestine, Texas 1989-1991. This 1-story commercial building displays only modest amounts of stylistic ornamentation, but it remains one of Palestine’s oldest and most intact examples of a One-Part Commercial Block, a common plan type of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Although some of the windows have been enclosed with brick, the building is one of the least altered properties in the downtown. This building had a variety of tenants during the late 19th and early 20th century, including a garage, an auto sales shop, and a wholesale grocery and feed store.
