Bowie, Texas, June 21: The nine-year-old daughter of Mr. Charles BACCUS, who
resides a short distance from here, lost her left eye and part of her right hand
while playing with a stick of dynamite.
A. W. and J. S. KERR, proprietors of Sherman and Collin Nursery, are agents for
the Topping Elevator (corrected in next issue to Topping Evaporator), a new
process for drying fruit./ Strayed: brown bay horse, last seen at Mr, WICK's
three miles northeast of McKinney; C. E. HUDSON, Pilot Point, owners/ A. J. ROSE,
Master of Texas State Grange, will speak at Melissa on July 8 on subject of the
National Grange./ The City Council have been applied to by T. P. L. McLEAN to
have lightning rods put on the calaboose./ Jesse SHAIN is preparing to build a
fine new house./ "The city council should by all means pass an ordinance making
it a finable offence to hiss or whistle at a place of entertainment..."/ J. H.
MACK had a valuable horse stung to death by bees.
"A large and respectable meeting was held on the prohibition issue on Tuesday
evening, between Johnson's and Newsome's corner. Rip POWELL made by far the most
telling speech. We haven't room to report it this week."/ "Can't publish any
more yarns on the authority of Henry BALDRIDGE, Jesse SHAIN and HARRISON (sic).
Barely escaped being mobbed for that of last week."
"Sebe BERT and 'Coon' SHEDRICK rocked another darkey's house, Todd WARDEN took
part as usual, and BERT and SHEDRICK were 'pulled'."/ Lindsey WILSON got put in
the calaboose to have the whiskey washed out of him./ Dick BEST of Weston has
found the mule belonging to W. T. MAYNARD, taken off by Whit CULWELL last fall./
James ANDREWS has brought the editor a turnip measuring 26 inches around and
weighing 6 pounds. It was raised by Abe HALL.
"George WOODS bought a pair of pants from George MOUNTCASTLE, laid them down to
look after some little matter. John BROWN coveted the said pants. He retailed
them out to Tom NALE. Todd WARDEN took stock in the transaction and the above
said BROWN abides within the walls of the prison house,"

officers: J. T. JOHNSON, Protector; Mrs. Maggie GARNETT, Vice-Protector; Mrs,
S. V. MARTIN, Chaplain; Miss Etta WILEY, Secretary; W. L. SAY, Financial
Secretary; L. A. FOOTE, Treasurer; J. L. TODD, Guide; Miss Flora SMITH, Guardian;
Charly DeVOU, Sentinel; W. R. POWELL, Mrs. Janie FOOTE and P. B. MUSE, Trustees.
The order now has sixty-nine members.
