MUSEUM
MUSINGS
By: Dorothy F Robertson
At the end of each year, the
County Historical Chairman has
to report the number of hours each
commission member spends doing
historical activities.
One responsibility of the
commission is to assist with the
county museum. Due to other
responsibilities of some of the
members, their hours were limited
at the museum, thus historical
hours were not known
My nephew, James Wyatt of
Sidney, spent three days in the i
hospital last week, having another
stint inserted, and has had twelve
heart operations since he retired
from Comanche Cotinty
Telephone Company at DeLeon
Each time, it was the doctor’s
orders not to move for so many
hours after surgery, so all he could
do was work his brain He began
constructing poems of yester-year,
so he needs to have some
histoncal work chalked up to him.
This weekend, as our family
members were enroute to the If ydu are unable to attend the
ninety-year birthday celebration of m®®ting, but know of someone

Aunt Lorene Foster of Gorman,
I watched Papa Saucer feed the

He worked the land
At this he made a good hand
The fire in the fireplace always
made me fed so warm
A place to be safe from all harm
They tore the old home place
down
It was just a half mile east of town
It is always good to have
Director Jack Hasty of DeLeon
with us, after having been in the
hospital at Temple He and
RaqeanaresofruthM When they
cannot be at the county museum,
they always leave a donation.
Director Joyce Burk has been
unable to be with us much lately
as her husband D B. Burk is
seriously ill.
There have been several
memorials given recently of which
we are always appreciative

James recited some of his
histoncal creations. He sounded
like a cowboy poet, but he says he
does that only for pasttime
One poem was of special
interest to me, as James is the
oldest of my parents
grandchildren, who he always
called Papa Saucer and Nana
Saucer (Foster) 1 asked for his
poems to be put in writing and
placed in the museum since they
.are interesting history
Anyone else that has wntten
any cowboy poems and wants to
share them with us, type them and
send them to us
I will share one of~ James
Wyatt’s poems, “The Old Home
Place”:'
They tore the old home place
down
It was just a half mile east of town
.This was Papa Saucer’s farm
The place where I was bom
The grape vines that grew on the
fence
The like I haven’t tasted since
The swing on the front porch was
so nice a place to play
