husband’s work.said Roy L. Swift,
social security district manager in
San Antonio. But not many
people know that in certain cases
a husband can qualify for
retirement benefits based on his
wife’s work.
For example, if a husband is
disabled bis wife may be the
principal breadwinner, tn cases
where the wife is the worker, her
retirement err disability can work
a significant financial hardship on
the family. Congress provided
long ago that when the, husband is
dependent, he couid receive
benefits on his wife’s record-

cohfusing the six month waiting
period required by law and^tfie

benefits if his disabling condition
can be expected to last or has
lasted for at least 1 2 months.”

are covered by social security if he
-worked, on a time basis (by the

“Don’t throw that tax money
away.” Swift urged farm workers.
“Be sure you have a social
security card and that your
employer sees it, so that he will
report your earnings correctly.”
“‘Then you will get the credit
you have earned,” he said. “It’s
the only way you and your family
can be protected by social
security.”
