Jack B. Krueger
A native of San Antonio, the managing
editor of The News was educated in public
schools there and at the University of Texas.
After graduation, his newspaper experience
began as a cub reporter on the San Antonio
Light. Eight years of experience as an Asso-
ciated Press editor in Dallas and San Fran-
cisco preceded his appointment as city editor
of The News in 1944.JACK B. KRUEGER
Mr. Krueger became assistant managing
editor in 1954 and managing editor in 1957.
He is active in the American Society of News-
paper Editors, the Associated Press Manag
ing Editors Association, a member of the Al
visory Board of the American Press InsI
tute, Columbla University; and other pro-
fessional organizations. He was elected to the
board of directors of The News in 1960.
William C. Smellage
A native of Waxahachie, Texas, William
C. Smellage joined The News in 1954 and was
elected to the board of directors in 1961. He
is secretary and assistant treasurer. He is a
graduate of Rice University and served dur-
ing World War II with the Navy for four
years as a pilot in the Pacific area. After
the war, he was graduated from the Southern
Methodist University Law School and became
a member of the Texas Bar Association.
Mr. Smellage spent three years with the
income tax division of the U.S. Treasury De-
partment and six years in public accountancy.
Among a number of organizations in which he
has been active are the Texas Society of

Dallas Gordon Rupe
This Investment banker, a member of tn
New York Stock Exchange, is head of the
investment banking firm of Dallas Rupe &
Son, Inc. He began his business career with
the establishment of the father-and-son firm
of Dallas Rupe & Son in 1929. In a highlyDALLAS GORDON RUPE
successful career he has been identified with
many of the largest financing projects in
Texas. In addition to his private business he
has been a supporter and leader in many
Dallas civic, cultural and charitable enter-
prises. He was made a member of the board
of directors of The News in 1960.1r
