at Houston this week.
j Many suggestions are being receiv-
ed in a statewide contest to select a
1 name for the trans-Texas section of
L • S. Highway 67, which is traversed
by tourists from the North an East
1 bound for>the Big Bend or Mexico,
< harles G. Gotten, Chamber of Com-
merce highway manager, said Satur-
day.
Winner of the contest will be an-
nounced at the annual meeting of the
Texas Highway 67 Association in
Comanche August 30. A |25 cash
prise will be awarded.
The highway enters Texas at Tex-
arkana and passes-* through Mount
Pleasant, Greenville, Dallas, Cleburne,
Stephenville, Brown wood, Coleman,
'Ballinger, San Angelo, Big Lake, Mc-
' Carney, Fort Stockton, Alpine and
I Marfa before reaching the Mexican
j border at Presidio. An alternate
route, shorter, takes tourists through
j Fort Worth after leaving Dallas and
before rejoining Highway 67 at Steph-
enville.
'Highland Trail,” "The Highlands”
and "Highland Way” are suggestions
of a Winters man.

resisdent offered “Deep Purple” or
I “Royal Purple.” “Sunrise to Sun-

“'Big Bend Highway,” “Texas Rockies
Road,” “Highland Highway,” “The
Texas Trail,” “Big Bend Boulevard”
and “Big Bend Broadway.”
Gotten is chairman of the statewide
committee in charge of the contest.'
Other members are Culberson Deal,
j San Angelo, and W. O. Cooper, Dal-
j las, president of the Texas Junior
i Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. and Mrs. Gaston Campbell of
Abilene were week-end guests of her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Henson,

little daughter, who spent the past
month here where ’Mr. Starling was
under treatment of the local physi-
cian, returned to their home, Hobbs,
New Mexpco, on Monday. He was
much improved. Mr. Starling and
family lived at the C. H. Sharp res-
idence while here.
Mrs. A. C. Haney and son, who vis-
ited her sister, Mrs. R. E. Vaughn
here the past two weeks, left Sunday
to return to their home in Los Ange-
les. They have lived there about
twenty-five years.
Mrs. W. P. Fretwell of Dublin visit-
ed in the home of Mr. and Mrs. B. FT
Cox this week.
Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Allen,
whose home is Coleman, are here this
week visiting in the home of his par-
ents, Dr. and Mrs. A. M. Allen.
Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Knowles and
Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Knowles, of Har-
lingen and Houston, respectively, are
here to visit in the home of Mr. and
Mrs. J. C. Williams. -
J. S. Nance went to Albany on bus-
iness Monday, being aoxjmpanied by
his brother, W. W. Nance, who went
to Hamlin to visit his daughter and
family, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rutlege.
Miss Ruth Ayers is here this week
visiting Miss Catherine Snead and
other relatives and friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Bryant Coffee of San
Angelo were guests of Mrs. Clara
Underhill the past week.
Miss Dixie Gilger and her aunt and
uncle, Mr. and Mrs. BIJisser of Rang-
ar were in De Leon Thursrday night
attending the Festival and visiting Mr.
and Mrs. R. L. Scott and Elaine.
Dixie and Elaine are to be roommates
at Tarletori College in the Fall.
Little Miss Jackie Rowe is home
from Del Rio where she visited in the
home of her aunt, Mrs. Bryan Kelly.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Howard, accom-
panied by Mrs. Fannie Morris, Mrs.
M. B. Nelson and Joe Terrill, recently
went for a brief vacation trip which
took them to Mineral Wells where
they heard Gov. W. Lee O’Daniel
speak. They also visited at Weath-
erford and Glen Rose. •
