Discharged. Tom Sobey
the man arrested on Wednes-
day on the charge of robbing
Wyat of S650 had a prelimi
nary examination on Thursday
before justice Hackworth and
was discharged there being no
evidence to show that he was
guilty. Sobey is a railroad man
and is highly spoken of by all
who know him.
Extensive Improvements.
The Banner learns that con-
tracts have been let for the
erection of half a block of brick
buildings on Douglass street
between Main and Sandy
streets; when completed they
will be quite an addition to that
part of the city. It will not be
very long before the vacant lots
on Sandy street leading to the
Santa Fe depot are all built up.
The beautiful yard in which
our magnificent courthouse is
situated is the property of the
people of the county stilllt is
used by private parties as a
pasture for their horses. As it
is one man's property just as
well as another's we take the
liberty of inviting every man in
the connty who wants to pasture
his horse to bring the horse in
and turn him loose in the court-
house yard.
A Six-Shooter. Friday af-
ternoon deputy sheriff Alf Gee
brought in Mr. James Quinn
and committed him to jail Mr.
Quinn was arrested in Wash-
ington and tried before justice
Brooks who fined him $25 and
trimmings for unlawfully carry-
ing a six shooter. In default of
payment he was sent to jail.
This seems to be a new depar-
ture as pistol toting is much
more common than many might
suppose.

Revival. A revival meeting
is no w in progress at the color-
ed Baptist church in Camp-
town and on Sunday last some
five or six converts had their
sins washed away in the limpid
waters of Hog river. An old
and experienced darkey says
that this is about thc right sea-
son of the year to get religion
for cotton picking as in cotton
picking season there is no
time to waste in getting religion.
He says that he speaks from
actual experiance.
Pearlinn. This is an entire
new invention and is intended
to revolutionize the laundry by
dispensing with the use of soap.
Pearline is a washing compound
in the shape of a whitish pow-
der. It is manufactured by
James Pyle New York and so
great is the confidence of the
proprietor in the article that he
sends out an agent to give it to
every family. A large quantity
of it was distributed yesterday
and more can be had at the
grocery stores.
Mr. Mike Jacob has bought
the Randle lot corner of Mar-
ket and Main streets opposite
the Mclntyre Hotel and will
at once proceed to complete
the building on it the founda-
tion of which was commenced
last fall.

W. J. Bryan Brenham :
Dear Sir : In reply toyours
I would state that Justice Hack-
worth wrote the communication
referred to.
As there are things said in it
that reflect on your father I re-
gret its publication and if you
will let the matter drop I think
I can set it all right in thc next
issue.
Mr. Hackworth came to me
and requested the publication
of the article and as the Re-
porter is endeavoring to serve
the people I consented. If
you have any reply to make I
would gladly give you all the
space you wish.
I knew nothing of Hack-
worth till yesterday and if I
had known his real status in the
community I should by no
means have published his arti-
cle. I will make further explana-
tions in next week's Reporter.
