Messrs. Paul Eichard and Tom
vRivers who have been off attending
t school are at home for the holidays.
Frank Martin on a charge of dis-
turbing the "peace was tried before
Justice Curry and fined SI and
costs.
Stephen Williams and Francis
Martin 'colored were married in
the court house Thursday by Jus-
tice Curry.
Silvia Williams on a charge of
disturbing the peace was fined SI
and cost in Justice Curry's court
Thursday.
A little German girl died of
measles near Eosedale Wednesday;
it is learned that there are several
cases in the country.
Brenham ought to have the Santa
Fe machine shops and round houses
and doubtless could eet them if the
proper efforts were made.
It is learned that there was a
"scrap" near the Santa Fe depot
Wednesday night caused from too
much Christmas celebration.
Mr. Frank McIntyre was right
seriously hurt Christmas day by the
explosion of a cannon fire cracker
.accidently thrown between his legs.
Christmas passed off quietly in
Brenham without any serious diffi-
culty and notwithstanding the vast
amount of fire works exploded with-
out a fire.
Constable W. B. Crockett brought
here and incarcerated in the county
I jail Saturday Jno. Malone on a
charge of burglary committed last
September.
In the Mayor's court Thursday
Jeff Cole went over the bridge of
sighs on the charge of disturbing
the peace at the minimum fine of
1 and cost.
Me. W. H. Campbebl and two
daughters Misses Mattie and Dora
of Chappell Hill are here on a visit
to relatives' the guests of the family
of J. D. Campbell Esq.
Jno. Jones was arrested Saturday
charged with breaking into A. A.
Whoeler's barroom Friday night and
burglarizing the money register ap-
propriating a lot of red liquor lard
etc.
Quite a number of Caldwell peo-
ple spent Christmas in Brenham
among whom were noticed Messrs.
Jno. W. Hoffmann and wife Val
Herbst and wife and Jno. Wind-housen.

shop Thursday evening Louis
Schafer cut Paul Bayer in the
shoulder arm and thumb none of
the wounds however being dan-
gerous. About 7 o'clock Thursday evening
the stables of Mr. Henry Eosenbaum
six miles west of Brenham in the
Zionsville neighborhood was con-
sumed by fire. As far as could be
learned there was no insurance.

W- W. Searcy was in the city Tues
day on business.
Mr. Levin editor of the Eockdale
Messenger stopped over in the city
this week.
A negro knocked a white man in
the head with a billiard cue Tues-
day. The white man a railroader
cursed the negro whose name was
Lewis when the latter struck the
former with a loaded billiard cue
breaking it into three pieces and
killing the white man for several
hours but he finally rallied and is
now up.
Wm. Amthor formerly of Wash
ington county and S. S. Wilbon and
the Graham brothers all of Mc
Gregor came down home and to-
gether with 0. S. Wilson and C. E.
Wilson went over to Wimberly lake
hunting and remained fire days.
They killed five deer forty ducks
and squirrels too numerous to
count. There is some fine sport in
this countj- yet and Charlie Wilson
knows how to "get there."

Marriage Near Barton.
At the residence of the brides
parents four miles north of Burton
Thursday night last Mr. Frank
Derrick was united in marriage to
Miss Annie Blask Eev. Wm. Bowers
officiating. There was a large num
ber of relatives and friends of the
contracting parties present to wit-
ness the ceremony after which an
elegant wedding supper was served
and the handsome couple received
congratulations. The presents were
numerous and costly. The Banner
joins their many friends in extending
congratulations and wishes for them
a long life of prosperity and happiness.

Tho Huber Assignment.
A deed of assignment was filed in
the county clerks office Friday night
by Mr P. Huber proprietor of Hu-
bers Bazar on the corner of Ant and
Sandy street naming a list of 50
creditors in the order he desires them
paid the aggregate indebtedness
amounting to S4000. The assets
so the Banner is informod by Mr.
Huber will amount to 85000.
What is Brenham going to con-
tribute towards the World's fair

It was reported that in a diffi-
culty at Independence Thursday
one man shot another with a Boman
candle and was then severely cut by
the man he shot.
The Santa Fe saloon has been do
ing a rusning business tins week

pondingly happy. The railroad men
all know and t ade with him.
The Brenham Light Guard are
making arrangements for a grand
masquerade ball here at an early
day the committee having almost de-
cided on January the 8th as the time
for it. A costumer will be here and
arrangements will be made to make
it the entertainment of the season.

received raised a difficulty while
his blood was up with a yellow negro
whose name was not learned and
got the worst of it recoiving a severe

here Thursday at the news of the
serious illness of Hon. E. Q. Mills
and telegrams of inquiry were sent
to Washington asking how he was?
His many friends here are deeply
solicitous for him and will join the

Sam Morris a bar-keeper and Billy
Caston a deputy sheriff were mur-
dered. Tom Johnson Tom Beatty
Sam Buirell and Jeff Sholes four
negroes havo been arrested at Paris
charged with the murders. The
only object was to get some alcohol
without paying for it. According
to partial confessions the shooting
was dono by Johnson Burroll and
Sholes.
