A SENSATIONAL
SITUATION.
Tbe Senatorial IHght in Ken-
tucky Apparently Draw-
ing io a Close
Frankfort Ky. April 12.
The Senatorial situation is sen
sational in the extreme and
rumors of such damaging na
; ture have followed on each
other's heels since Saturday
that the scene is almost kaleid
oscopic. The latest rumor that
has gained enrrence is that
within the next twenty-four
hours a sensational resolution
will be introduced in the house
by the Hunter republicans cen-
suring and denouncing Govern-
or Bradley in the most severe
terms' for taking and having a
part in tbe alleged bribery
charges which have "been
brought against Dr. Hunter.
Ex Congressman Wilson and
E. T: Franks the Hunter re
publicans who are implicated
with their leader in the alleged
attempt at bribery were sum
moued before the grand jury
this morning on the recommend
ation of Attorney General
Taylor who said that he did
not want to see the grand jury
become a mere engine for pol-
itical persecution. Represent-
ative W A. Haird; a sound
money democrat from I)avies
county was also served with a
subpDenaj and it was stated
that he was to be questioned as
to whether or not been offered
money by the Hunter man
agers.
There was a murmur of sur
prise when the senate filed into
"the house for the joint session.
The redoubtable Jack Ghinn
who figured so extensively in
the session last winter occupied
a seat at thj door while Cap-
tain Thomas Tanner who test-
ified before the grand jury
against Dr. Hunter and his
tlriuenants stood' just behind
him. The republicans were non
plussed for a tinif but as no
offensive move was made the
incident was soon forgotten.
When the roll was called the
Hanter republicans answered
promptly to their names but
the gold democrats bolting re-
publicans and freeilver demo
crats declined to answer thus
breaking a qnbrnrn.
Representative Burns of Mad-
ison county a Hunter man
denonnced the. tactics of the
opposition iu round terms say-
ing that there were 125 mem-
bers of the general assembly
on the Hoor and only forty-five
had answeredj the continuation
of sdeh tactics he saidj was
a disgrace to the stjifai A hal-

LAREDO .LETTEE.
OaIve3ton News.
Laredo Tex April 11. A
little over a year ago "Harvey
Nolan while ejigaged in blast-
ing rock on the Texas railroad
quarries for the Aransas Pass
harbor had the great misfor-
tune to have both his eyes
blown out by a premature blast.
He was brought to Laredo and
taken in charge by the sisters
of charity at the Mercy hospi-
tal where after months of suf
fering he recovered his health
but not his sight. Thrown upon
tile world without a centand
'an entire stranger with no rel
atives in this country his con-
dition. was pitiable. The good
citizens of Laredo responded to
his desire to attend the blind
asylnm where he hoped to
learn some trade which would
enable him to make a living
and not become an incumbrance
upon society sent him to Aus
tin; from whejnee he was return
ed here with a certificate of be-
ing an expert broom maker.
Recently the noble ladies of the
city took his interest irT hand
and determined to tit him out
with a broom factory and last
nigbt witnessed Market hall
fiilewith people enjoying an
ice cream festival the tables
being presided over by the
moat charming girls in Laredo
The proceeds with private sub
scriptions will beused.to buy
the necessary outfit to start Mr.
Nolan in business.
In excavating the basement
for the new Catholic church
being built upon the site of an
ancient cemetery hundreds of
graves were opened;and while
the bones not dissolved into4
dust have been carefully gath-
ered and reinterred yet some
of the small bojs have realized
some wealth by picking up the
loose teeth found in the dirt
and extricating the gold pings
therefrom.
