KILLED
Captain Christian Thaulow, head of the
violin department at Hardin-Simmons Uni-
versity from 1932 to 1934 was killed in a
bus accident at Bath, England, Jan. 8. He
vas in the intelligence division of the army,
stationed in England.

Captain Thaulow, a native of Norway,
spent much of his life in Paris. He spoke
fluently several languages among which
were French, English, and Norwegion. In
the last World War he was a flier and he
entered the service again last summer.
Mrs. Thaulow lives in New York City.
H-SU Receives Gift
From Mrs. P. H. Miller
Mrs. P. H. Miller of Spur has informed
officials at Hardin-Simmons University
that she is giving additional assistance in
the H-SU $500,000 building and endowment
campaign. Mrs. Miller has made previous
contributions to H-SU and has aided

ball star at H-SU, has been awarded the
Distinguished Flying Cross at the 8th AAF
Bomber Command Base stationed some-
where' in England recently for Extra-
ordinary achievement" while participating
in 25 bombing missions over Germany and
occupied Europe. Winston has previously
been awarded the Air medal with Three
Oak Leaf Clusters.
As first pilot of the B-17 Flying Fortress
'Seymour Angel", Capt. Tucker participat-
ed in many historic bombing missions, and
on such a raid into France last fall, he
and his crew had their narrowest escape
which, but for the British Air Sea Rescue
Service might have ended fatally.
Returning from the target, Capt. Tuck-
er's Fortress was severely shot up by flak
three of the four engines were shot out of
commission. Rather than go down over
enemy territory, Winston chose to attempt
n long glide with an ultimate crash in the
English channel. With extraordinary skill
he made a downward descent of his B-17
into a dangerously shallow glide. When he
was no longer able to maintain altitude, the

To artaipate In Launching
A Liberty ship to be launched on or about
March 27th is to be named in honor of the
late Dr. Julius Olsen, noted scientist and
member of the faculty for forty years at
Hardin-Simmons University.Julius Olsen is the name selected by the
United States Maritime Commission. The
privilege of naming the Liberty ship was
earned by Taylor County when it exceeded
its quota in the Second War Loan drive a

Two H-SU'Students Win In
Hour of Charm Audition
Halouise Mason Wilcox and Frances
Merle Cooper, senior music students at
Hardin-Simmons University won in a con-
test at Dallas recently for a place on Phil
Spitalny's Hour of Charm program which
appears each Sunday night on a national
radio hook-up. Only two girls were select-
ed for final competition in this contest, and
