Cowboys Open With Arkansas
A better club, but a rougher schedule. That is the way
the Hardin-Simmons University football picture looks for
1956.
Head Coach Sammy Baugh, who will be serving as head
foreman for the second time this fall, figures that the
Cowboys have more depth than last year, but he also retc-
kons that the 1956 schedule is about 25 per cent rougher.
The 1956 Cowboys will open with Arkansas of the South-
west Conference and close with Texas Tech, 1955 Border
Conference Champions. Between those two powers are
Arizona State, Texas Western, West Texas State, New Mex- BAUGH
ico A. & M. of the Border Conference, and George Washington, College of
the Pacific, Tulsa, and Wichita, non-conference teams.
Baugh and his aides, John Steber and Wayne Millner, both former
Washington Redskin teammates, Bill Scott, and Howard McChesney, will
have 20 of 33 who lettered last year and one from 1953 returning.
