Your alumni association initiated
a new type of degree at summer
commencement on August 18. It is
a Ph. T. degree that will be awarded
to working wives of university
Juanice Carlile Bartlett, who is
pictured below, was the first re-
cipient of this award. Twelve of
the awards were made during sum-
The wording on the certificate
reads as follows: "Hardin-Simmons
University Alumni Association grate-
fully presents this Award of Merit
for domestic and financial achieve-
ment in support of her husband's
progress through Hardin - Simmons
University to ( ) and
confers upon her the right to in-
scribe the initials Ph. T. (Putting
Hubby Through) after her name im-
mediately following her husband's
graduation." Each award is signed
by the president and secretary of
the association. To make it even
more official there is a gold seal af-
fixed in the lower left hand corner
with purple ribbons.
In the future the awards will be
presented at the commencement
luncheon immediately following the
NEW DEGREE. Mrs. Kenneth Wayne Bartlett (nee Juanice Carlile) is
presented the first Ph. T. degree awarded by the H-SU Alumni Association.
