PRESIDENT'S PERSPECTIVE
I am pleased to announce that, as part of our long-range institution planning, Hardin-
Simmons University has begun a three-year intensive capital campaign. The "Leadership
for Tomorrow" campaign is a comprehensive fund-raising effort to allow Hardin-Simmons
to continue serving the needs of Christian education.
The campaign will provide funds for important needs including construction of a
new Health Careers Facility and a new Missions Center. The School of Music's historic
Caldwell Hall will be restored with additional construction adding much-needed space. The
construction will also connect Caldwell Hall with the Woodward-Dellis Recital Hall.
Among the additional priority needs being addressed in the campaign are technology and
academic equipment, program support and debt reduction, Loyalty Fund for current scholarships,
endowments for academic scholarships, special programs, professorships and chairs, and renovation
of campus facilities.
The base goal is $14,000,000 with a challenge goal of $20,000,000.
Structured as a series of campaigns, each division or constituency group will be challenged to
meet its own goal. The Board of Trustees' campaign began in February and has demonstrated
enthusiasm and dedication. The Board of Development campaign was launched in April. The
Faculty and Staff campaign is scheduled to begin in September.
Following the above-mentioned "family campaigns," the fund drive will focus on the Abilene/
Big Country region. This fall, business leaders, along with others in the community, will be contacted
and given the opportunity to help support these worthy projects. Next year, campaign efforts will
widen to include major metropolitan areas across Texas.
Hardin-Simmons has always been blessed by the generous financial support of people who
appreciate the value of excellence in Christian education. I look forward to reporting to you that
response to the Campaign once again affirms the loyal commitment of alumni and other friends
who uphold our mission at Hardin-Simmons University.
