Texas, precipitating as much as 10 inches and
causing floods in Texas basins from the Trin-
ity to the Nueces. Property destroyed valued
at $5,000,000 with loss of several lives in the
Dallas vicinity.
May 30, 1909: Tornado.-28 Killed and many
injured at Zephyr, Brown County, $90,000
damage.
Dec. 1-5, 1913: Rainstorm.-Caused the sec-
ond great Brazos flood. It formed over Cen-
tral Texas and spread both southwest and
northeast with precipitation of 15 inches at
San Marcos and 12 inches at Kaufman. Floods
in the Brazos and other rivers caused loss of
180 lives and $8,000,000 property damage.
April 20-26, 1915: Rainstorm.-Storm origi=
nated over Central Texas and spread into
North and East Texas with precipitation of as
much as 17 inches, causing floods in Trinity,
Brazos, Colorado and Guadalupe. More than
40 lives lost with property damage in excess
of $2,000,000.
Aug. 17-20, 1915: Hurricane.-After coming
from the Gulf, this storm moved across Cen-
tral and Eastern Texas into Louisiana and
Arkansas. Rainfall of 18% inches was re-
corded at San Augustine, but most severe
damage was at Galveston and places along
coast near Galveston. About 275 lives were
lost and property damage was about $50,-
000,000. This storm is sometimes called the
second Galveston hurricane.
April 9, 1919: Tornado. - Leonard. Ector
and Ravenna in Fannin County, 20 killed, 45
injured, $125,000 damage.
Sept. 14-17, 1919: Tropical hurricane. -
Sometimes known as the Corpus Christi
Storm, it came into Texas from the Gulf in
South Texas and moved northwest to New
Mexico in a unique path. Loss of life, 284.
Property damage, $20,000,000.
April 13, 1921: Tornado. - Melissa. Collin
County and Petty, Lamar County. 12 killed,
80 injured, $500,000 damage.
April 15, 1921: Tornado.-Wood, Cass and
Bowie Counties in northeast Texas. 10 killed,
50 injured, $85,000 damage. Much greater
damage after tornado crossed state line into
Louisiana and Arkansas.
September, 6-10, 1921: Tropical Hurricane.-
This storm came from the Gulf into Mexico
and moved north into Texas with the greatest
rainfall ever recorded in this state. At Taylor,
Williamson County, 17 Inches were recorded
the first day and 30 inches in the two-day pe-
riod, with the astounding total of 23.11 inches
in a 24-hour period, including parts of two
calendar days. Loss of life was 224. Total dam-
age was placed at $10,000,000 to $17,000,000.
April 23-28, 1922: Rainstorm.-An exception-
al storm that entered state from the west,
and moved from Panhandle to North Central
and East Texas. Precipitation was as high as

tered in and around Fort Worth.
May 14, 1923: Tornado.-Howard and Mitch-
ell Counties: 23 killed, 100 injured, $50,000
damage.
April 12, 1927: Tornado. - Edwards, Real
and Uvalde Counties; 74 killed, 205 injured,
damage $1,230,000. Most of damage in Rock-
springs.
May 9, 1927: Tornado.-Collin, Hunt, Fan-
nin and Lamar Counties; 28 killed, more than
200 injured, $900,000 damage.
May 24-31, 1929: Rainstorm. - Beginning
over Caldwell County, a storm spread over
much of Central and Coastal Texas with max-
imum rainfall of 12.9 inches, causing floods
in Colorado, Guadalupe, Brazos, Trinity,
Neches and Sabine Rivers. Much damage at
Houston from overflow of bayous. Total prop-
erty damage about $6,000,000.
May 6, 1930: Tornado.-Hill, Ellis and Na-
varro Counties with severe damage at By-
num, Irene and Mertens in Hill County; Ennis
in Ellis County and Frost in Navarro County,
41 killed. Property damage, $2,100,000.
May 6, 1930: Tornado.-Karnes and De Witt
Counties with severe damage at Kenedy,
Runge and Nordheim. 36 killed. Damage,
$1,200,000.
Aug. 29-Sept. 7, 1932: Rainstorm. - This
storm moved into Texas from Mexico across
the Big Bend and spread out to cover all of
Texas except the Panhandle with rainfall max-
imum of 13 inches. Twelve lives lost, $2,500,-
000 damage.
July 22-27, 1933: Tropical Hurricane. - In
area covered and rainfall, one of greatest
storms in Texas history, it came in from the
Gulf in the vicinity of Brazoria County and
moved northeastward over Southeast Texas,
and covered a wide area in Mississippi Val-
ley. A maximum rainfall of 20.3 inches fell
and there was an average of seven inches over
94,000 square miles. Damage more than
$2,000,000.
March 24, 1936: Rainstorm and Tornado.-
Widespread wind and rainstorm in Northeast
Texas centering over Gregg County, did
$1,200,000 damage, largely in oil fields.
Sept. 23, 1941: Tropical Hurricane. - This
storm moved in from the Gulf near Mata-
gorda and swept northeastward along Gulf
Coast. Four lives lost; damage, $6,000,000.
Most of damage at Houston.
April 28, 1942: Tornado.-Crowell, Foard
County. 11 killed, 250 injured, $1,500,000 dam-
age.
Aug. 30, 1942: Tropical Hurricane. - This
storm swept in from the Gulf over Matagorda
Bay and pursued a west-northwest course,
reaching the Edwards Plateau area before
diminishing in intensity. Eight lives lost.
Property damage, largely crops, $26,500,000.
May 10, 1943: Tornado.-Laird Hill and Kil-
gore in Rusk and Gregg Counties. 4 killed, 25
injured. Damage, $1,000,000, largely in oil
fields.
July 27, 1943: Tropical Hurricane.-Storm
moved in from Gulf over Trinity Bay, most of
damage occuring in Galveston and Harris
Counties. Lives lost, 18; property damage,
$17,000,000. largely crops.
April 8, 1944: Tornado.-Pottsville, Hamilton
County. 1 killed, seven injured, damage
$1,000,000.
Aug. 24, 1945: Tropical Hurricane. - This
storm moved inland over Aransas-San Antonio
Bay area and paralleled coast to vicinity of
Houston where it lost its hurricane intensity.
3 lives lost; many injured; $20,000,000 dam-
age, most of which was to rice and cotton
crops.
Jan. 4 1946: Tornado.-In vicinities of Luf-
kin and Nacogdoches. 23 killed, 300 injured;
$2,050,000 damage.
