HISTORY OF TEXAS.
The Alamo, where William Barrett Travis and his little band fought to the last man
against Santa Anna, was established as the Mission San Antonio de Valero in 1718. It was not
until 1754, however, that the structure shown above was erected. The property of the State
of Texas, it stands today in the midst of busy, downtown San Antonio.
