every two weeks until mid-
March. Pointers for sucessful
gladiolus production include:
1. Purchase only No. il sized
corms for planting.
2. Select a new area for
growing gladiolus each year if
possible for disease control.
3. Prepare soil well in ad-
vance of planting.
4. For most soils, plant at
a depth of 4 to 6 inches. If
planted too shallow, the plants
are easily blown over by wind.
5. Staking is necessary if
grown in exposed areas.
6. Cut as little foliage as
possible if corms are to be
served for the following year.
7. Allow foliage to die be-
fore digging corms for storage.
PLANT EARLY
Now is the ideal time to
plant bare root t”ees, shrubs,
and vines m the landscape.
There will be ample time for
good root development before
hot weather forces excessive
top growth. Most nuiseries have
their finest selection of plants
at this time of year. Make your
selection early in order to get
the best plants.
