Provided By

Private Collection of Cody Garcia

The materials provided by the Private Collection of Cody Garcia are an extensive series of manuscript entries contained in an account book that belonged to Denton resident, Cora Helen Elizabeth Elliot, who operated a millinery shop downtown. These thousands of entries document large and minute transactions with individuals, businesses, and public institutions in the Denton area. The entries reveal the kinds of goods that Elliott imported into Denton and who consumed them in specific quantities. They also document the expenses involved in establishing and maintaining the business. As a whole they also illustrate the methods of bookkeeping for a local business at the very beginning of the twentieth century.
