alaiuied at the growing corruption, and I
made twenty speeches, denouncing the cor-
rupt rings and candidates who had las n

Country people don't complain of primary
elections, where every man's vote can be
counted. They were disgusted wilh conven-
tion nominations, which were cut and dried
by political manager*. Court house candi-
dates could unite their purses under tho old
law s to make a big campaign fund, for they!
controlled county conventions with purlin ;

chance. Sometimes the largest purse took
its owner to Congress. A banker told me i
that just before a primary election over

a Congressional candidate in a pivotal
county, and the next Saturday all the ne-

didates for Congress could enlighten you
on this subject. The high duty oi the Dem-
ocracy of Texas Is to stop such Infamy, for
