Letter From the Editor - By Felix Alvarado
Once again you arc going to trad the stunc old tirxxl thing. Vote.
Yes. Vote. Somehow, we have to convince thousands of people to get out
and vote. Ifyou wonder, why I am saying vote it is because we have acrisis
in America. America is being controlled by radical conservatives. These
folks don’t care how many lies Trump says or what he does. They simply
donotcare. WhattheywantisforTrumptoremaininoffice.
There are no conservative or liberal politicians there are only pol-
iticians that want to be elected and reelected. Conservatives want no gun
control, no abortions, no immigration reform. Conservatives at all levels of
government especially the Supreme Court, something they already have.
Ifyou have never been motivated to vote in the past hopefully, you will be
this election.
America is being ruled by conservatism. The traditional Repub-
lican Party is dead. There is aTrump Party which much like Venezuela
consists of poor uneducated, unemployed. There are people that will sell
their soul to the devil to attain wealth and power.
Trump does not have a future for America. Under Conserva-
tism we would be enslaved with no rights. Ifyou do not believe that listen
to right wing radio. This is the way things look: Trump tells alie. Fox
News amplifies the lie and gives it legitimacy. The same for right wing
radio. There is a condemnation ofaH not conservative or Trump. Millions
follow Right Wing Media. And they all get the same intoxicating rhetoric.
Trumpists were on display at the Commissioners Court. They are also on
display at city hall starting with the mayor. We Latinos represent a large
part of the population. We cannot continue being the doormats.
I was pleased by the turnout at our last LULAC District 21 meet-
ing. We had a lively discussion and members are enthused and ready to
participate in the election process. LULAC is an activist organization and
we are on the road to being a viable political organization in North Texas.
The struggle to name a street after Cesar Chavez continues. As I
drive around town, I see several historical markers honoring AfricaAmeri-
canachievements. ThereareNONEforMexicanAmericans. Yes,thereis
a horse monument unfortunately it does not represent who we are. There
is also a number near the courthouse, unfortunately, that one too does not
represent who we are. There was only one Latino politician at the commis-
sioner’s court hearing on 287g. Sergio DeLeon.
We have tried to work with Carlos Flores, councilman for District
2 to rename a street after Cesar Chavez. Instead he sends out to get
thousands of signatures for a petition to rename the street A voter told
me this. Maybe we should gather thousands of signatures to remove him
from office. I realize that Flores has to be loyal to all those that contributed
money to his campaign. Alongthe waitthosethatvoted him into office
should count. From rumors Ihearfhatthe mayor has abandoned her
opposition to renaming a street Perhaps we can get the ball rolling finally.
We Mexican American have a lot history to tell about our experience in
North Texas. One bit of history that everyone should knowis that the Mex-
ican American experience of North Texas is not that oftheTejano of South
Texas.
My objective is to make LULAC bigger, better and stronger. To achieve
that I need help, I need sponsors. LULAC is the only organization with a
nationwide organization and an office that is there to help us if we need it
We are prepared to use it
