The Whitewright Public Library opened in 1967, spurred by a 1966 presentation by the Whitewright Friday Literary Club, titled, "Does Our Town Need a Library?" Since then, the library serves a population of just over 2,000, from the city of Whitewright, as well as from wider Fannin and Grayson Counties.

The Whitewright Sun publishing office is the oldest continuously-operated business in Whitewright, Texas, having just celebrated 136 years in 2020. In addition to serving the city of Whitewright, The Sun is also the newspaper of record for the Whitewright Independent School District and the City of Tom Bean.
