She views herself as a person
with teaching in her blood.
She began teaching by tutoring
her siblings when she was in
fourth grade. At that time
she determined teaching would
be her career. Three positive
role models have made her
the teacher she is today. Her
fourth grade teacher, Mrs.
Minnie Hardgrove, tutored her
in a positive manner when
she relocated to a new school
district and found she was
behind. A middle school science
teacher, Jerry Scott, showed
her how to touch and inspire
students. Finally, a high school
math teacher, Mrs. Josephine
Cogdell, showed her how to
make math fun. She has carried
these lessons forward and made
a difference in the lives of her
students.

her personal feelings and be-

her concept of what makes an
outstanding teacher as follows:
“The calling of a teacher is
to make him or herself even-
tually obsolete to the child’s
own natural curiosity and self-
congratulator. Even the most
well- meaning and motivated,
teachers see their responsibility
to the students as an imparter of
knowledge. They feel that cer-
tain amounts of specific con-
tent must be covered in just the
right way in order for the stu-
dents to evolve as knowledge-
able adults.”

Car Placards
May Expire
The first of the permanently
disabled person placards that
were issued in 1992 will begin
to expire on June 30. The
Wichita County Tax Office
reminds citizens that they must
obtain new placards to remain
in compliance with state and
federal laws.

placards are hung from a
vehicle’s rear view mirror and
entitle the holder to certain
parking privileges. Placards
may also be displayed in any
vehicle used by or for the
transportation of a disabled-
person. L gr
Placard renewals will be
processed through the Wichita
County tax collector. Citizens
are asked to take their expired
placards to the tax office, where
they will complete a form and
pay a statutory fee per placard.
