Mouth of the Santa Helena Canyon, where the Rio Grande breaks through the Rocky
Mountain range. which traverses the Trans-Pecos region of Texas. The right wall is
in Brewster County, Texas, the left in Mexico. There are several notable gorges on tihe
Rio Grande between El Paso and Del Rio, especially along the course of the river in
the "Big iend" region. Other notable canyons of Texas are those along the Devil's
River, the lower course of the Pecos, the Palo Duro on one of the upper tributaries of
the Red River, and the Canadian. The rim of the canyon shown above is 1,00 feet
above the channel of the river in some places.. .
