[Letter from John C. Brewer to Emma Davis, August 21, 1878] Page: 4 of 6 (Transcription)

going to get hay this evening.

I am getting along very well with my reading, and if Fletcher don't mind I'll get ahead of him. I have nearly finished another book. I intend to study hard so as to get ready to attend lectures next fall.

I intend to read all the time I have untill then, but I'll have to work hard to get the funds to go on for Pa can't help me, so I'll have to help myself.

I look forward to Christmas as the first pleasure I'll have soon, for I haven't time to think of pleasure now.
