Daniel Webster Debating Club
This society is one which had its beginning this year, shortly after the
opening of school. It was organized primarily for the benefit of the three
lower classes, but we have the distinction of having one Senior's name upon
our roll. Since its organization scarcely a Friday night has passed without a
meeting of this club, and new members have constantly been added to the roll.
The subjects for debate at our meetings have been upon the important
questions of the day. The members have displayed great enthusiasm in pre-
paring their debates which have been pronounced excellent by the great
majority of our hearers. Enthusiasm has likewise been displayed in parliamen-
tary practice, each member striving to learn as much as possible about con-
ducting an orderly meeting.
The purpose of all debating societies has been carried out in this one, that
is: to teach the members not to be embarrassed while speaking to an audience.
After the first month the teachers began to remark upon the improved recita-
tions of the members of our club and have given it their hearty approval from
the first. Since this time we have continued to improve upon our delivery.

The School State
The 1915 civic class, for the sake of practical experience, hit upon
the idea of establishing a government, modeled after the city government,
among the students of the High School. The class was divided into groups
who were to prepare different sections of the charter. These sections being
turned in ahd approved by the charter committee, a final charter was drawn
up and submitted to the pupils of the High School. It was adopted by a sub-
stantial majority, there being not a single vote against the adoption.
Five Commissioners were then chosen, one each from the Freshman,
Sophomore, Junior and Senior classes and one from the Alumnae . The first
Commissioners of the School State were: Vernon Miles, Senior representative
and Mayor; Rolland Lawrence, Junior representative and Commissioner of
Public Records and Finance; Frank Thomas, Sophomore representative and
Commissioner of Public Property and Improvements; Frank Carlson, Fresh-
man representative and Commissioner of Public Health and Sanitation and
