LASTWARNING
The state director,, of Selective
Service -Friday issued what he
termed his "last, reminder" to stu-
dents of . draft age about, applica-
tion to take the college draft test
on November 19.
"Application to,_take the' test
must be postmarked no later than
midnight, Monday, November 2,"
Brigadier General Paul L. Wake-
field, the state draft director said.
"This is the last reminder we'll
give students." ■ *
Students were also reminded
that they can pick up bulletins of
information, application blanks and
envelopes in which to mail them
at the office of any Texas draft
board.
To be eligible to apply to take
the test, the student must (1) in-
tend to request deferment as a
student, (2) be satisfactorily pur-
suing a full-time Course of instruc-
tion, and (3) hot previously have
taken it.
„ General Wakefield said he-wish-
ed to make it clear that making a
-'satisfactory'-seo-Tey-aiV'th^-t^st-dfl^S;.
not mean automatic deferment for
the student.
It is not mandatory for local
boards to defer students, even
though they- make scores equal or
better than those outlined in the
criteria of- Selective Service regu-
lations.
"Purpose,of the tests principally
is to furnish scholastic informa-
tion • about individual students,"
General Wakefield commented. "It
is a device to give 's dded informa-
tion about the individual."
More than 7,000 Texas college
students are 'currenly deferred by
draft. boards, many . of them on
the basis of Selective Service test
scores.
Students interested in taking the
November . test . w'ere urged by
General Wakefield to apply at,
once.
All major mid-term - examina-
tions at Tarleton will be completed
prior to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov.
18, aeeoi'ding to a recent decision
of the Executive Committee.
' Reason for. the decision is the
conflict that existed this year be-
tween N-TAC Week and the ninth
week of school—mid-term.
The first nine weeks ends Nov.
21. The Tarleton-Arlington game,
which climaxes N-TAC Week, will
be played'Nov. 20.
The change made by the Execu-
tive Committee will prevent the
nine week examinations and the
N-TAC Week-celebrations from oc-
curring at the same time. -
All major examinations will be.
given* slightly earlier in the term
t-han usual.
The Executive Committee also
decided that students will be ex-
cused from classes beginning at
10 a.m. Nov. 20 for the N-TAC
game but that only those students
who buy their tickets at the fiscal,
office will be excused.
P, E. Girls Wear
Colorful Attire
This year's P..-E-.' class of fresh-
*raen, girls,,.has blossomed .out in
white shirts and bright yellow
shorts.
Miss Laura Fellm'an, girls' physi-
cal education instructor, stated
that last year's, freshman class
chose these colors because they
thought they would look well with
their own white shirts , and red
shorts.
Several of the girls do not have
suits at the present time since the
extra ones had to be ordered have
not come in.
"The girls are also using sixteen'
new'badminton raoquets. Howevpr,
the order for this year's new equip-
ment has not been made out," Miss
Fellman reported.
