Snake Adds Strokes
To Profs Golf Game
Dr. Willam. Martin, head of the
Tarleton English department shot
a three-over par six on the fourth
hole of the Stephenville Municipal
Gol'd Course last week.
That in itself may or may not
be newsworthy but the conditions
under which the hole was played
hmve lifted the incident from the
commonplace.
Dr. Martin's first drive put tha
golf ball in a stream bed border-
ing the faii-way. While climbing;
down into the ravine, golfer Mar-
tin stepped on a snake,
"When I' felt it writhing beneath
my foot I was somewhat shaken.
I believe I leaped directly up abbut
tour'feet and came down running.
I don't know what kind of a snake
it was, but I wasn't bitten."
Dr. Martin went on to finish
playing the hol'e. His three over
par scor'i is no record, but might
be considered good golf under the
conditons.
