his varied inteiests have centered
around J L Rhoades and
Associates, Inc., which has
developed more than 2,000 acres
within the city limits of Odessa
Active in both showing and
racing quarter horses, Rhoades
was elected president of the
American Quarter Horse
Association in 1966. He has been
a member of the association 37
years and served on the executive
committee for four years prior to
his election as president.
Rhoades has served as vice
president and director of the
Odessa Development Corp , and J.
B D. Inc. He has also served as
director of Key Investment Co.,
First National Bank of Odessa,
First National Bank of Big Spring,
and Texas Electric Scrivce Co
He has been a director of the
Colorado River Municipal Water
District, and is a charter member
of the Texas Racing Association.
An acti vt civic worker,
Rhoades is past president of the
Odessa Chamber of Commerce,
Community Chest and United
Fund, Quarter Horse Association
of West Texas, and the Odessa
Rotary Club
In 1960, he received Odessa's
"Civic Service Award" as the
city's outstanding citizen of the
year.
Rhoades is a veteran of more
than 35 years service with the Boy
Scouts of Amenca and holds the
Silver Beaver and Silver Antelope
Awards.
The gift by Rhoadet to
Tarleton brings to (line the
number of outstanding quarter
horses that have been contributed
to the university since the degree
program was approved last year
by the Coordinating Board, Texas
College and University
System,

Association's Board of Directors
(LSBA) The state-wide,
non-profit association was
organised in 1974 by Dr
Morrison, to give a voice to the
18.000 registered Texas
bowhunters
In 1975, the legislature,
influenced by Texas bowhunters
and the LSBA, passed a bill
req lining an nicheiy stamp to
hunt deer and turkey. The monies
ate utilized to promote hunting
and wildlife management in
Texas. In 1976. the National Rifle
Association recognized
bowhunting as a legitimate sport
Earlier this month at the
annual LSBA banquet, Di.
Moirison was appointed editor of
the Association's bimonthly
newsletter It is a medium for
keeping bowhunteis abreast of
state and national legislation.

Membership is $5 pei year.

shooting pioblem, an article, or a
photograph that would he
appealing or helpful to the

gives the LSBA permission to
publish it.
