Student Teachers recognized for excellence
in the classroom
Kristi Cain of Waxahachie, Morgan
Cruthirds of Houston, and Jennifer Farmer
of Corsicana were chosen as recipients of
the Robert H. Elliott Memorial award for the
Fall of 2000. The Department of Curriculum
and Instruction presents the award after
each student-teaching session to three stu-
dent teachers who display outstanding
qualities in the classroom.
Farmer was selected for the award
because of her excellence at all levels of
teaching. She taught at Kerrville Elementary
and High Schools under the supervision of
Dixey Selgrath, Brian Young, Wendye
Watson and Gary Mierers.
Cruthirds received the award for excel-
lence in secondary education. He completed
his student teaching at Stephenville Junior
High • under the supervision of Nancy
Crouch and Tylor Chaplin. .
Cain received the Elliott award for excel-
lence at the elementary level. She student

The Robert H. Elliott Memorial award
was created by his friends and colleagues in
memory of his enthusiasm for education
and his devotion to students. Elliott joined
the Tarleton faculty in 1981 as a professor in
the Department of Education and
Psychology and supervisor of the student
teaching program. Prior to joining the
Tarleton faculty, he served in the Colorado
public schools system both as a teacher and

Software, version 2.0. Hopefully, this soft-
ware will help students become familiar
with the format of the GRE, especially since
all GRE's are now administered via comput-

diate GRE~equivalent score results
under actual conditions.
•Practice questions from previous tests
•Easy-to-use tutorials to familiarize stu-
dents with computer-based testing,
•Extensive practice for GRE writing assess-
ment, including actual topics with sample
test-taker responses and evaluations.
The locations of the software for
Stephenville are the Teaching and Learning
Center Computer Lab, Dick Smith Library;
For Killeen students, the software can be
found in the computer laboratory.
To run the software, click on the POWER-
PREP GRE icon on the desktop.
Parking lot named for former Tarleton
The Texas A&M Board of Regents recently
approved the designation of the parking lot
on Mclhlaney as Thompson Park. The lot is
in honor of former Tarleton student and
retired dentist Richard Thompson.
A Stephenville native and resident,
Thompson began noticing the increasing
problems that Women's housing residents
w,ere having with finding adequate parking,
He decided to help by donating 6 parcels of
land on Mclhlaney for aciclitionai parking
for residents in the Women's dorms.

Crime report for January 16 - January 23
There were 391 parking tickets issued between January 16 and 23.
At 12:30 am, an intoxicated Tarleton student was transported by
ambulance to the Harris Methodist emergency room from Bostocks.
A vehicle was damaged while legally parked between the Industrial
Technology building arid the Administration Annex building.
An unknown subject hid from an environmental worker behind
some bushes at 11:10 pm.
At 10:25 pm, a vehicle was damaged from another vehicle backing
