Happenings in the Cattle World of
Interest to Reporter Readers.
H. P. D. Howard left Tuesday
for King county, where he will get
800 head of high grade Hereford
and Durham yearlings. He will
drive them to this place and put
them on his ranch near here.

Rat Jowell returned last week
with his bunch of 275 steers, which
he bought last spring from J. D.
Thompson of Bob, I. T. The herd
originally numbered 300, but Ral
sold 25 head before coming up. He
got them here in very good condi-
tion.

J. D. Thompson of Bob, I. T.,
who some time ago purchased the
Jacob Buttram ard Rat Jowell
ranches, came in last week with 120
head of high grade stock cattle,
which he placed on the Buttram
ranch for the winter. Mr. Thomp-
son left on Monday for his home,
where he has several hundred cattle
on feed.

A. S. Bassett has for the past few
years bought the top of the Tierra
Blanca Hereford bull crop, owned
by L. R. Bradley. This year was
no exception, as on last Saturdae he
bought the $250 calf, Captain Cli-
max, and has placed him on his
North Draw ranch. He is a fine
animal, and Mr. Bassett is to be
commended as well as congratulated
on his purchase.
Notice to Hunters.
All parties are hereby warned not
to hunt or shoot on my pasture.
42-4t Rat Jowell.

Night Watchman Appointed.
At a meeting of the difierent busi-
ness men. held last Monday after-
noon in the office of Witherspoon &
Gough, an organization was partially-
effected for the purpose of hiring
and maintaining a night watchman
during the coming winter. Dr. R.
M. Johnson was elected president
and F. L. Vanderburgh secretary
and treasurer. On motion C. L.
Bounds, E. O. Fierabend and S. H.
Morris were appointed to act with
the president and secretary as an
executive committee, and who were
to draft a set of by-laws governing
the organization, and to report at a
meeting to be held at Witherspoon
& Gough's office next Monday even-
ing at 8 o'clock. It being regarded
by the meeting as necessary that
the watchman should be appointed
to commence work immediately, an
election was ordered, and resulted
in L. I. Mathis being selected to fill
the position. He was deputized by
Sheriff Inmon and entered upon his
duties that evening.
Nichols Resigns.
It is learned with regret by all
who know him. that D. H. Nichols,
vice president and general manager
of the Pecos Lines, has sent in his
resignation to the Santa Fe company
headquarters, to take effect Decem-
ber 31. Mr. Nichols is very popu-
lar in the Pecos Valley and the
Santa Fe company will be fortunate
if they find as good a man to suc-
ceed him.—Roswell Register.
