last, came before Justice Hinkle this
morning and lodged complaint
against Bill Davaúlt, tho colored boy
in jail yefterday for
> alleged jobbery of the
.residence of Cap*. ■" Anderson,
on East Pecan street. Mr. Penn
states that Mrs. Penn paid particular
attention to the manner in which tho
man in their house walked, and it ex
actly corresponds to that of the negro
Bill Da vault.
Capt. Anderson says today that ho
positively knows that Davault is the
person who was in his bouse and who
lit tho match and held it up in the
room. He states that there was
another 1'ehson witu iuvaufct,
and that he would have succeeded in
catching them both if ho had not been
afraid to venture out on some brokon
glass, on his feet, which were uncov-
ered. He also states that the negro
who was "in his room, shoved bis
land down in his pocket, and in sup-
port of the theory that Davault hada

tridges from John Copley, corner of

mother states that he left home about

and did not come back. ' He protests
his innocence of tho charges, and has
spent a great deal of his time crying
over the matter.

Deputy I'oimty Clerk Walker*
MiMfortuuc.
Mrs. Fitch and M iss Mat tie Lewis,
paid the Rejwteb office a pleasant
call this afternoo n.
Robt. Walker, deputy county clerk,
who attends to the records of the
county court, was stricken yesterday
afternoon with a strange and painful
paralysis of tho face, whereby he
was rendered blind and speechless,
the hearing was not affected.
He scratched on a pieco of paper
in tho office, "I am blind and cannot
spouk," and ho wandered out of tho
court room, managing to reach his
rooms at which ho is slipping. Tho
f.ervices of Dr. J. 15. Stinsn wero
procured, and with strict inoilicf.l
uttentiou, he was soon able I o better
diecoru objects about him, and
his power of speech is c nuing back
gradually. Ho r.tateB that ho has been
similarly afllicted, but this is the worst
attack ho over had. Mr. Walker has
a host of warm friendH iu this city,
who wiil hear of his misfortune with
deep regret. Ho is reported to bo
much better today, and it is trusted
will bo around all right in a few
days.
Freeotai faertelf was in-
troduced in behalf oí the defense, and
testified that Mr. Shumate had always
treated her in a ladylike manner, and
that he had always acted as a gentle
man. Other evidence for the defense
was introduced, and the state is now
introducing its rebuttal testimony,
which will be followed by the defense.
The case is attracting considerable
attention.

Another egg phenomenon has come

gomery street. A morning or two
since Mrs. Pendleton had occasion to
break an egg in a plate and was sur
prised to find iu the meat a perfectly
developed green pea. The egg was
purchased from a grocery store in the
city.
