On Sunday, July 8, the following
instructions were sent to agenta of the
Ouir, Colorado and Sanla.Faa Rail-
way. _ . '
"On aooount of the «levator* being
fill! of wiieat and a large number of
cara on track which we can Mt get
unloaded, with no prospeot for relief
of the elevator* in tbe near future;
agent? ere instructed a* follows: Re-
fuse to furnish car* in which • to load
wheat for Galveston until further ad-
viseti. Oars already started loading
oan be finished and forwarded. In
case shippers inaist that their wheat
oan be unloaded promptly at Galves-
ton, report prpmptly to this office,
giving name of shipper aud consignee,
when the matter will be investigated,
and advice giveu if same can be ac-
cepted "
The general freight department of
tho road makes the following explana .
don:
"We are living up very closely to
to the letter of. our instructions, be*
ing not only careful, but anxious, to
see that no hardship is worked against
any ehipper of foreigu gtajn for or via
Galveston, Even if we have a lot of
grain on hand at Galveston uonsigned
to the same party we do not refuse to
furnish equipment for other loads
without first investigating the situa-
tioiváad ascertaining if saVneeau be
unjEAed at Galveston with reason*
ftlilrUVomptnesH.
vjug as yet no export rates on
at to auy gateway, it is evident
t unless the situation is somewhat'
ieved we are practically out of the
eat-carrylng trade.
'Now as to Mr. Bailey'^ statement
as to the available storage at this port,
we need only to say tliatj while we be-
lieve tbe same is entirely correct as to
Mn Texas Grain Dealers' Association,
but he was not particular-to tell the
whole story. The truth is that while
hi* elevator could probably receive
about 400 additional oars of wheat,
the owners of the. grain themselves
and the insurance companies will not
allow of its being unloaded therein,
fur the reason that the Insurance
limit has already been reached, con-
sequently, while the room may be
there, it is absolute)/ unavailable at
this time and of no benefit to the
carriers serving this port.

"Everything i* quiet but serene,"

in earnest, It is tbe desire of tbe
party to increase Grsyton county's
strength in «tete conventions here-

In 1886 this county bad twenty-six
