and silence. If I were going to select the greatest eye special-
ist of the quack variety on the American Continent, I should
select Dr. Oren Oneal of Chicago as the master quack. The
artful plausability of his advertising, his ingenuity in "jolly-
ing along" the patient for his reluctant dollars, the wide
spread familiarity of his features through the magazine ad-
vertsing pages, and above all his sleek and polished person-
ality, make him the greatest of all fakes on the American
A high class exponent of the charlatan's art is he. No
raw newspaper advertising for him. He uses high class mag-
azines and religious papers. His bland and benevolent fea-
tures shine forth like a benison from all the religious and lay
magazines. His method is, he claims, a "dissolvent method"
no matter what the trouble may be he "dissolves it away."
How I make the blind see and cure all eye diseases, in PA-

and sometimes twenty-five, and sometimes even less, but
the patient must always pay in advance. Give him the
money and Oneal will undertake to cure the impossible on
any ones eyes; not only this, but he will undertake to cure
cases which he himself knows to be incurable. His "dis-
solvent method" is a high sounding name for a cheap eye
wash which can no more cure any serious derangement
than Aqua San Antonianus.
Another Great American Eye Specialist is Dr. W. 0.
Coffee, of Des Moines. This wonderful specialist adver-
tises to repair eyes by mail. An old German lady of some
seventy-five summers, after reading his advertisements
had her eye removed and sent to the wonderful Dr. Coffee
by mail, and at the same time a youth of some fourteen
summers also seeing his advertisements to repair eyes
