A Gift to Give.
It is often difficult to decide what
to get your friends for holidays
gifts. Here is a suggestion :
"Good morning Jennie I have
brought yon a nice present" said
Gertrude as she handed her friend
a neatly wrapped package.
The pale weary looking girlwho
was slowly recovering frouP'severe
illness opened the bundle and held
up a large bottle of clear rich
medicine.
"Hood's Sarsaparrilla?" she ex-
claimed. "I have been reading
about it today and wished I had a
bottle."
On New Year's Day Jennie was
.able to be ont on the street and to
her friends who remarked how
well she was looking she simply
said "Hood's Sarsaparrilla" and
every one of them kuew it was this
great medicine that had given back
her health.

THE TWICE-A-WEEK

est by-telegraplt as well as inter-
esting stories is sent to the sub-
scriber of the "Twice-a Week"
Republic which is only $1 a year.

Republic knows all about
affairs political domestic aud for-
eign events j is posted. about the
markets aud commercial matters
generally.
The woman who reads the
"Twice-a-Week" Republic gathers
a bit of valuable in formation about
household affairs and late fashions
and finds recreation in the 'bright
stories that come under both the
headings of fact and fiction. There
is gossip about new books and a
dozen other -topics of especial in
terest to the wide-awake man and4
woman.
THE DELTOID MUSCLE.
It Play a Prominent Part La tk
Baalneu of tke Cuton
Tailor.
"It is a. rare tiing" said the talking
man relates the Washington Star "to
find a merchant tailor who can get a
perfect fit' in the cloths be makes.
Bo rax in fact that I hare sometimes
thought that tailors of all artisans
knew least how to do their work right.
Yet the tailor or the cutt;r rather ie
not always to blame for a perfectly cut
garment may bekta set askew by a
careless maker who' a crooked seam
or a slight departure from the line set
for his needle may throw the whole
thing out of plumb. Still a good tailor
ought to know when a garment fit3
and should either be able to correct ita
unfitness or not let it leave .the shop.
Speaking of the cutting parb; I remem-
ber an incident that occurred once at
ft convention of cutters held in Cincin-
nati. The subject for discussion wa
the cutting and fitting cf garments
and a testy old Scotchman had the floor.
He said in effect that if a coat wre
cut to set right upon thedeltoid muscle
that the wearer would always find it
comfortable and well fitting-.
" 'In fact' said he the deltoid mus-
cle determines the fit of a coat.'
" 'Will the gentleman state what and
where the deltoid muscle is? asked-a-tutter
on the other side of the cham-
ber. "The Scotchman turned ca hi in
sharply.
" 'Sir' he said angrily 'do yon claim
to be a cutter and not know where the
deltoid muscle is located? Don't you
know sir that a knowledge of the hu-
man an to my is as important to the
tailor as it is to the surg;on? Do you
expect to cut a garment to tit an object
whose every line and. curve you do not
know? You might as well try to fit a
plug to a hole withoutknowing the size
of the hole. No sir the gaptleman will
not state what and whex4he deltoid'
muscle is. It is your dutyYsir fo knew
the deltoid muscle; not mine to in-
struct you.'
"The discussion ended tier? simply
because there was nobody present to
carry -it on for I don't believe s man in
the .place except the old fellow knew
anything about deltoid muscles." 1
know I didn't but as soon as I got to e
dictionary 1 lookedtit up. Later I gave
the matter some study and I found that
the Scotchman was right"
