Running For Office-The Right and The Wrong
The Student Bar Association
elections will be held on
Thursday and Friday, March 6
and 7, this year.
Any student wishing to file
his intention to run for an SBA
office must obtain a form from
the SBA office no later than
February 20. The form includes
a declaration of intent to run for
office and the signature of five
fellow students attesting to the
candidate's good character.
Many are wondering "Am I
qualified"? The SBA
Constitution defines each office
and its respective qualifications.
The President and Vice-President
shall be a person at STCL who
has completed no less than 35
hours but no more than 65. In
no instance shall a person who
has less than three (3) semesters
remaining, exclusive of the
present semester, be eligible for
office.
The Secretary and Treasurer
offices shall be held by a STCL
student who has completed no
less than 20 hours and no more
than 65.
The Legislative power of the
SBA lies with the Board of
Governors, which consists of the
President, Vice President,
Secretary, and Treasurer, and 2
Senators from each of the three

Senior Senator, the STCL
student must have completed no
less than 50 but no more than
65 hours.
No STCL student who has
completed more than 20 but less
than 28 hours will be eligible to
file as candidate for the
Freshman Senator slots.
In addition, all candidates
must have an academic average
of at least 70, exception being
first semester students who have
not yet received grades.
The function of the President
of the SBA is to call and preside
over all meetings, and with the
advise and consent of the Board
of Governors, appoint a Law
Student Division Representative
and a Parliamentarian. The
President appoints committees
and lends general direction to
the activity of the SBA.
The Vice-President is to
coordinate the work of the
committees of the SBA, shall act
as liason between SBA and the
Board of Trustees, and shall
assume the Presidency of the
SBA in the event of the
President's resignation or
incapacity.
The Treasurer and Secretary
positions concern financial
control and record of the SBA
activities, respectively.
The Senior Senators represent

or other electronic device,
without the consent or prior
knowledge of all parties to
the conversation," the
committee said.
The opinion covers three
classes of persons in such
conversations: 1) clients, 2)
other attorneys with whom
they deal, and 3) the public,
including but not limited to
witnesses and public officials.
"These would include
conversations in which the
attorney was not himself a
party," the committee said.
The only excpetions noted
by the committee are
"extraordinary circumstances
in which the attorney general
of the United States or the
principal prosecuting attorney
of a state of local government
or law enforcement attorneys
or officers acting under the
direction of the attorney

Freshman Senators, representing

Orientation Committee.
Terms of office begin with
the first day of classes of the
Summer Semester.
In keeping with STCL over-all
low approach, each candidate
will be allowed one poster
containing a black and white
picture (8 x 10) and a five
minute presentation on Speech
Day, March 4th. No circulars,
buttons, or posters other than
the one allowed, may be used in
campaigning. And by the way,
campaigning begins one week
before the election (February
28).
