Editorial
October2000
KUDOS
It was a proud month for South Texas Col-
lege of Law, and rightly so.
First off, the tremendous effort of the stu-
dents and participating faculty for the can food
drive has shown that the size of our hearts far
exceed the size of our school. We should ac-
knowledge that although the success of the can
food drive depended on the contributions, it
would not have been possible without the
herculean efforts by the members of the SBA in
coordinating, collecting and counting the
25,000+ cans. SBA president Haikimi rightfully
thanks students and faculty, but the students and
faculty should in turn also thank the SBA. This
was effort well spent for a worthwhile cause.
Also, South Texas has shown our capacity
to be fantastic hosts. The Texas Supreme Court
visit went off without a hitch, and this was no
small task. The logistical concerns alone must
have been a huge challange. But with proper
planning by administration and flawless execu-
tion by property managment, security and oth-
ers, South Texas really impressed the justices
and other visitors. Special thanks should be
extended to Bill Hill and the crew at Kennedy
Wilson Properties, Jerome Crews, Debbie
Gibbins and the rest of the security staff, and
Reginald Green who handled all of the details
for the school.
With all of the guests we have had at the
school this month, it has also been a great
opportunity to showcase the development of the
library building. The building is being com-
pleted on time. With the inclusion of elevators
and other interior systems this month, activity
has increased around the construction area.
Despite this the inconveniences to students and
staff have been minimal.
And most exciting of all is that South Texas
has not only been distinguished this month in
state advocacy competitions, but has also
brought back it's 72nd national title. Special
thanks should go to Mark Callender, Matt
Caligur, Alexandra Smoots-Hogan, Chris Volf,
B.J. Bell, J-D Schacht, Josh Fuchs, John
Hempling, Wesley Wardwell. These excellent
student advocates not only brought back honor
for themselves, but for South Texas as well.
