Feminine Guile.
Some women when staying at
hotels do not care to exhibit to the
passers along- the corridors the
exact size of their feet so they
carefull3r carry with them a couple
of pairs of tiny delicate shoes
which instead of the ones they are
wearing they place outside their
doors for the servants to take down
and clean. All the big boot shops
in Paris now make a specialty of
this tin' footgear and a pair or
two form a portion of the trous-
seau of every up-to-date bride.

A Bird That Remembers.
The homing instinct' lasts for
life and a bird sometimes attains
the age of sixteen years says a
writer in Country Life in America.
During the Franco-Prussian war
the French caught a homing pigeon
which was being sent to transmit
information out of the besieged
city of Paris. The bird was made
a prisoner of war and kept in con-
finement for ten years. When given
its liberty it at once returned to its
old home .showing that ten years
was not sufficient to drive from its
mind the memory of home.
Late Texas Items.
Estimates on the cost of additions
to the insane asylums at Terrell
and Austin place the cost of an
addition to either asylum sufficient
to accommodate five hundred pa
tients at $S0000. An appropria-
tion for such an addition will be
recommended by the committee.
Heavy rains fell throughout the
state Monday causing all streams
to rise rapidly and doing some
damage. s"
The bills for a Confederate Wo-
man's home and forfeiting. charters
of insurance companies that trans-
fer cases to federal courts have been
vetoed by Governor Ianham as be-
ing unconstitutional
A heavy hail storm at Laredo
Mondar is .reported to have injur-
ed the onion crop considerably j
Fruit trees were also badly dam-
aged. The ceremony of present ing the
silver service given by the citizens
of Galveston to the U. S. cruiser
Galveston took place Monday in
that city in the presence of an
immense crowd.
