alternative will be to seek to obtain
these vitally important improve-

franchise to a private corporation.
The only offer for such is from a

built a waterworks system and
which prefaces its petition for the
free gift of this franchise with !he
statement that it will not accept it
for less than fifty years. This pre'

-Similar articles are being publish
ed by the same agents of private
corporations in all leading news
papers that can be induced to pub
lish them.
The reason for this great activity
on the part of the private corpora
tions is easily explainable in view
-pf'the wide increase of sentiment
in favor of city ownership of public
utilities. Naturally enough the
tmoneyed corporations would rather
uildthe water and light plants
and street car systems and make
frpm ten to twenty per cent or
more profit on the investment than
tto lend the money to cities at not
xiver five per cent to build them.
That is the secret of the strenuous
and even frantic efforts being made
by the corporation interests to de-
feat municipal ownership.
-.Fortunately for Brownsville
'"most of her leading property owu-
ers are clerer enough to see through
the specious arguments advanced
by the private corporation advo
cates and they will not be mislead
hv them. There are some of
-course who are honestly in favor
f private ownership. There are
two sides to every question a
right and wrong side and unfor-
tunately there are often some hon-
est persons who will get pn the
wrong side. The Herald does
not doubt however that even
those who favor -private ownership
will vote in favor of the bond is-!

I Dyspepsia 1
:fi America has been li
called a nation ot dys-

drink more beer there
would be less dyspep-

national beverage dys-

The Pabst Eight-Day
Malting Process takes twice
as long as other methods of
making malt but it retains
every particle of the food
value of the barley-grain in
the malt.
The Pabst Brewing Pro-
cess extracts all of these
rich nutritious health-giving
food values from the
malt and transmits them
in predigested form to the
beer.
Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer
is therefore an active aid to
digestion -and consequently
an enemy of dyspepsia.-
