CRUDE OIL
Presented to Brownsville
Texas Company.
by
The Big Oil Corporation Heard of (he
Difficulty Brownsville Had Exper-
ienced in Getting Crude Oil to
War on Mosquitoes.
. Wfle.ri the city of Brownsville
firstjbegan the war to exterminate
the mosquitoes from the town in
the early spring they found con-
siderable difficulty in securing
crude oil. Soon after Dr. Brumby's
first visit to the city they found it
was impossible to secure any crude
oil in less than car load lots. The
officials did not feel that the city
could afford to pay such a large
Sum for that amount of oil as it
was not believed that the city
would evef need a car load there-
fore a long time was wasted in an
effort to get crude oil in smaller
quantities but without success.
When it was found that the mos
quitoes were becoming nutneious
the city commencad to purchase
refined oil and have been using
that expensive substitute for the
crude product ever since dengue
made its appearance.
Recently Aldermen Russell and
Crixell through the local agent of
the Texas Company Louis Kowal-
ski made known to the principal
officers of the great Texas Com-
pany which by the way is the
Company fighting the Water-Pierce
Company the great difficulty the
city officials had to encounter in
fighting the mosquitoes with refin
ed oil that could only be used spar-
ingly on account of its cost.
With a liberality that will com
mend itself to our citizens and the
citizens of other communities The
Texas Company wired to Louis
Kowalski this morning as follows:
Beaumont Texas Aug. 15 1907.
Louis Kowalski Agent Texas
Company Letter eighth. Will
ship city of Brownsville tank car
crude oil for disinfecting purposes
with our compliments. Have re
quested Manager Miller to remit
freight. The Texas Company.
When this good news of a sub
stantial expression of sympathy
with the crusade being waged here
to wipe out every mosquito was
heard over the city the Mayor im-
mediately wired the company as
follows:
Brownsville Texas Aug. 15
1907. The Texas Company Beau-
mont Texas. Your telegram to
Agent Louis Kowalski donating
car crude oil to city of Brownsville
for disinfecting purposes received.
In the name of the city permit me
to express our appreciation and
sincere thanks.
F. J. Combe Mayor.
Letter to E. K. Goodrich.

.. Dear sir: Take a two-story house.
(and reckon the costs with different
paints; yon will be surprised. Say
the house has a total of 3210 square
feet. v - .
Divide by 300; you buy 11 gal-
ious. That's the rule; but it never
comes-out so".
Buy any other paint than Devoe
you will have to buy hlote Up to
possibly 22 gallons. Paint Devoe
and you'll have a gallon Of M0 to
return. Here are soiiie experiences.
' N R Walkins fciott Texas used
13 gallons on his house before;
bought 13 gallons Devoe for same
house and had 6 left.
G B Edwards of Edwards &
Bro'nghton printers Raleigh N C
ilsed 30 gallons paste paint on his
Tiouse; bought 30 gallons Devoe
for same house and had 16 left. Go
by the gallons.
Yours truly
