KILLED BY TRAIN.
'Negro Brskeman's Body Fcund oa Track
Near Olmito.
About ten o'clock the mangled
body of Herbert B. Gunny "who'
was employed as brakemah on the
St. L.j B. & M. was found on
the track about half a mile this
side of Olmito. He had evidently
been seen tun over by the train.
Gunny is said to have gone out'
on the passenger train this morn-
ing but nothing can be learned as
to ho.w he came by his death.
Judge Gavito went out and held
an inquest and found the facts as
above. Gunny is supposed to have
fallen from the train and been run
over not being seen-froni the train
as it was still dark at the hour the
train leaves.
His left leg was cut off near the
groin and his skull broken his
brains protruding.
CONDUCTOR W. B. G00DE
HANDSOMELY REMEMBERED
Fine Silk Umbrella Presented By Fellow
Conductors on the St. L B. & M.
Railroad as Christmas Gift.
Being good by nature as well
as Goode by name and being a
good conductor as well as an all-
around good fellow. Conductor W.
B. Goode of the St. Iouis Browns-
ville and Mexico railroad received
a handsome testimonial of the high
esteem in which he is held by his
fellow conductors on the line in
the shape of a fine silk gold-
handled umbrella which was pre
sented to him in this city on Christ
mas eve. Conductor C. A Jacobs
acted as spokesman for the donors
and made tne presentation in a
happily worded little speech- The
gift is a handsome black silk um-
rella with gold mounted pearl
handle bearing an inscription in
dicating the donors date etc
and with Mr. Goode's initials en
graved on the end.
Mr. Goode is one of the oldest
conductors on this road having
been in Jhe service longer than any
qf his fellow conductors on this
line although still a young man
so far as years and appearance go.
and this gift is an expression of
the great andgeneral liking which
he has earned by his very pleasant
relationsVith the brotherhood.

La Parra and Choice Vegetables
From Brownsville Gardens De
light Homeseeker's feye-
With his usual enterprise Geo.
M. Puttgnat the druggist has ar
ranged a fine display of home
grown vegetables and fruits in one
of his show windows in order to
give" the homeseekers some idea cf
what can be produced in this won-
derful country. -The display has
been the object of general admira-
tion and many scores of h6me-
seekers have stopped to look at this
ocular evidence of the productive-
ness of this fertile soil and climate.
Thevegetable display includes
carrots sweet peppers bleached
lettuce beets radishes; tomatoes
green peas string beans etc. all
of which were raised in Browns-
ville gardens and make a combin-
ation of "garden sass" which
makes our northern visitors won-
der that sucn can be produced in
the open air in mid-winter.

Deafness Cannot be Cured
by local applications as they cannot
r acji the diseased portion of the ear.
There is only one way to cure deafness
and that is by constitutional remedies.
Deainess is caused by an inflamed con-
dition of the mucous lining of the Bus
tachian Tube. When this tube is inflam-
ed you have a rumbling sound or imper-
fect hearing and when it is entirely clos-
ed Deafness is the result and unless the
nilammation can be taken out and this
tube restored to its normal condition
hearing will be destroyed forever; nine j
cases out of ten are caused by Catarrh
which is nothing but an inflamed condv
tion of the mucous surfaces.
We will give. One Hundred Dollars for
any case of Deafness (caused by catarrh
