FOR VIOLATION OF
IMMIGRATION
LAWS
Immigrant from Mexico Affected with
Trachoma Crept in After Being Re-
jected. Belongs to Mexican
Circus i
The Mexican circus that is now
giving exhibitions nightly in this
city at Las Delicias pavilion is
now something like the play of
Hamlet with the "melancholy
Dane" ommitted as it is without
a clown. Maclabio Rivera the in-
dividual who has been employed to
do the funny act for this circus
is in duress vile at the immigra-
tion offices where he is held under
charge of having entered this
country in violation of the immi-
gration laws of the United States-
Rivera presented himself with
the remainder of Jthe circus com-
pany at the immigration offices on
the 13th instant for admission to
this state. On examination he
was found to be affected with the
dangerous eye disease trachoma
for which reason he was refused
admission being sent back to Mata-
moros. The remainder of the
company were passed and pitched
their tent in Brownsville.
But the clown was sadly misled
by his companions and so it was
arranged finally that Rivera should
come over without the permission
of the immigration officers. This
he accordingly did on Sunday
night taking advantage of the im-
mense crowds returning from the
Matamoros fiestas on that night.
His presence was soon learned of
by the authorities however- The
result was that a secretary's war-
rant for his arrest was secured
and Rivera was placed under arrest
by the immigration officers at Las
Delicias yesterday afternoon. He
will be held a prisoner at the immi-
gration offices until instructions for
his deportation are received from
Washington.
