Church Told
According to First Baptist
Church secretary, Mrs Beatrice
i Watson, several important meet-
ings are slated at the church dur-
ing the next few days.
Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. the
Lydia Class will meet at the church
for a regular monthly business-
social meeting.
Monday afternoon at 3, the
church will be host to the 5th
Monday meeting of the Federation
of Church Women.
At 7 p.m., Monday. August 31,
Sunday .School officers and teach-
ers will hold a regular meeting
and also enjoy a covered dish sup-

District Court
Damage Suit
Trial continued this week in a
damage suit styled O'Neal Lake, et
ux, vs Lea's Butane Service, et al,
in which the plaintiffs seek dam-
ages allegedly received in an auto
accident.
A District Court Jury was hear-
ing testimony in the suit. It is
being tried in the second jury
week of Judge J. W. Summers
Second District Court.
Filed with the District Clerk
were the following suits:
Lloyd Morris vs. D. J. Helton,
collection on check; Odis D. Flem-
ing vs Provident Life and Accident
Company, claim collection; Town
of Alto vs Marshall Bynum and
Edwin Bynum, delinquent taxes;
Town of Alto vs George Williams,
collection of taxes.
Five marriage licenses were is-
sued by the County Clerk in the
past week. Licenses were issued to
the following couples:
Jerry Bob Smalley and Nelda
Jean Cawthon, William Pruitt Mar-
tindale and Dianna Leath, Anita
Ruth Crisp and Charles Leonard
Traylor, Joe Conrad Murphy and
Judy McElmurry, Bill Gaston Fin-

Meeting Set
For Tuesday
A meeting of teachers in all
Cherokee County common school
districts will be held at 9 Tuesday
morning in the County Courtroom,
County Superintendent Robert L
Banks announced.
Common School Districts will
begin school either September 2
or the next week, September 8,
according to their location. Those
in the Rusk area will begin on
Sept. 2, while those in the Jackson-
ville area will wait until a week
later.
There are eight common school
districts in Cherokee County.
