4-H Council:
The Cherokee County 4-H
Council he'd its regular meet-
ing Thursday, June 6, at 7;30
p.m. in the Council Room of
the Courthouse in Rusk.
This meeting turned out to
be one of the most enlight-
ing meetins of the year, Ch-
ris Parson- presided and
calle-* the meeting to order.
Rich.ir' singletary led the
4-H motto and pledge and
LaNelle Clifton called the
ro!' ar.1 read the minute*-
of the previo i- meeting.

of the meeting.
The program wa- given by
Chri l-urxin- and his >ub-
jeot wa- Parliamentary Pro-
cedttre. Chris stated that it
was planned for the beginning
of the meeting in order for
the 4-H'ers present to use
the practices learned during
the program in the following
business session. We might
add that this procedure turn-
ed out to be very effective.
Chris trained the members
in the correct parliamentary
procedures and stressed that
discussing subjects at hand
was also a very important
matter in any business meet-
ing. He succeeded in getting
everyone involved in the dis-
cusión of the business at
hand.
Following the program,
Counci member- were able
to put what they had learned
to practice. Diann Nelson gave
a report on the County Foods
Show; Richar.' ^inglet..rv re-
ported on ÜPtrict elimina-
tions; l inda >ingleury re
ported on the Di-trjot Foods
- how; J aNePe Clifton report-
ed on the Junior Leadership
Lab; and Chris parsons re-
ported on State Roundup.
Concerning new business,
the main topic of discussion
was deciding where to go
on the planned summer trip.
After discussion,a committee
was appointed to study the
situation further. The com-
mittee will be composed of
Chris Parsons, LaNelle Clif-
ton, l inda Singletarz, Ann-
ette Crain and Bill Avera.
It was a so stressed that only
those 4-H'ers who complete
a Record Book will be eligible
to participate in the Summer
Activity.

gineer for Bown and Root
Construction Co., he was a
Methodist and a veteran of
World War I. Mr. Shattuck
was a native of Rusk Coun-
ty and had resided in Alto
most of his life.
Survivors include his wife,
Mrs. Edna Shattuck; three
daughters, Mrs. Billie Byrd
of Pasadena, Mrs, Dorothy
Campbell of Garland, and
Mrs, Doris Calvert of San
Antonio; a sister, Mrs. Rita
Slngletary of Houston; a dau-,
ghter-in-law Mrs. Mary Jo
Shattuck of Pasadena; and 10
grandchildren,
