Roy Blake Files For Senate Re-election
NACOGDOCHES - Roy
Blake of Nacogdoches
made it official Monday
that he wW be a candidate
for reelection to the Texas
Senate, District 3, when he
paid Ms I7S0 filing fee for a
* position on the ballot in the
DMMcratic primary.
He had previously an-
nounced his intention to
seek reelection to a crowd
of ever 1,000 friends and en-
thusiastic supporters from
all across the lS-county
district at a reception held
in his honor last September
9th at the Lufkin Civic Cen-
ter.
"Although only two years
ago I carried each of the IS
counties over two well-
flrtanced opponents and
have received en-
couragement from across
the District to seek reelec-
tion and feel 1 am in the
best political shape ever, I
will not take any opponent
lightly and will conduct a
vigorous campaign in each
of the counties in District
3," Senator Blake said.
"I have been fortunate to
rise to positions of leader-
ship in the Senate. As one of
nine committee chairmen,
I meet with the Lt. Gover-
nor each week to discuss
priorities and the agenda
for the week when we are in
Session. As Chairman of
the Administration Com-
mittee, I have jurisdiction
over all local bills which
make up about one-half of
all legislation passed each
Session, legislation that is
of vital importance to our
local governments in each
of our counties," Senator
Blake continued.
"I have a seat on the all-
important Finance Com-
mittee which hears all
requests for state funding.

I am a member of the State
Affairs Committee which
hears all bills of statewide
importance. I'm on the
Nominations Subcommit-
tee which screens the ap-
pointments made by the
Governor that must be con-
firmed by the Senate. I'm a
member of the Legislative
Council which drafts all
legislation and does
research on the need for
new legislation. These
positions don't belong to
me but to the people of the
Third Senatorial District.
They don't go with the of-
fice but have to be earned.
No new Senator will have
these positions," Blake
said.
"With the many
problems facing the Texas
Legislature next Session, I
feel that our District and
our state need experience
and effective leadership
more than ever," Senator
Blake concluded.
Blake was first elected to
the Texas House of
Representatives in 1972
and served in that body un-
til elected to the Texas
Senate in 1978.
Since his election to the
Senate, he has worked
closely with local elected
officials and their
problems. He has spon-
sored and helped pass
legislation that has retur-
ned state funds to county
governments to be used on
local road and bridge
maintenance. Blake has
worked for increased state
funding of public
education, and education
has been of top priority
during his tenure in office.
He was named Legislator
of the Year in 1961 by the
Texas Municipal League
for his work in behalf of
Texas cities. He has sup-
ported efforts to improve
funding for FM road and
highway construction and
repair. He feels that state
government cannot afford
to allow our highway
system to deteriorate.
During the 1981 and 1983
Regular and Special
Sessions of the Legislature,
Senator Blake had a 100
percent attendance and
voting record. He was
never absent from a
meeting of the Senate and

Need a new Keating
and/or cooling sgstem ?
A. Heat Pump is both!
If your house is like many, you haw separate healing and cooling systems.
IÍ yours are over tuteen years old, chances are you ve had increasingly
Ireguent sen-ice calls. The units are probably starting to cost you numey and
maintenance is likely to get even more ireguenl . and expensive
When you replace, consider the heat pump, the most etlicient heating
and cooling machine available In typical installations, you get two units
ot energy I heat i lor every unit of energy (electricity I used by the heat
pump system. Tile result is lower system operating costs and lower
fuel usage.
The heat pump is a single unit that both heats iitulnmls. In the summer
it's a standard air conditioner. In winter, it reverses operation and picks up
heat in the outside air (no matter how cold the outside air. there's always
some heat in it I and pumps it into your home. In most installations,
existing duct systems can be utilized
Contact your local Seseo oltice lor a list n| qualified heat pump sales and
sen ile companies.
