It's not too
K
late to get
flu shots
It is not too late, for those who
missed getting their flu or pneu-
monia vaccine. It has been noted
that some people get the flu in the
spring months. Taking the injec-
tion now will cause the antibodies
in the body to be the greatest in
March or April. People at high risk
should be vaccinated annually as
well as those who provide care to
high risk patients.
Influenza is a contagious dis-
ease caused by a virus. Influenza
viruses infect many parts of the
body including the lungs. When
some who have the flu sneeze,
cough or even talk, the flu virus is
expelled into the air and may be
inhaled by anyone close by. Flu
may be transmitted by direct hand
contact.
The flu shot is covered by Medi-
care. For more information, inter-
ested persons may contact the
Cherokee County Health Depart-
ment at 683-4688.
