Cattle receipt* at Fort Worth
Thursday tapered off to light vol-
ume and the run was also lacking
in quality. Most of the otterings
were plain grades of grassy butch-
er heifers mixed butcher classes
and butcher cows. Good fed steers
and yearlings, of value to sell
above 35.80. were practically lack-
ing. Yard estimates called for
only 1,100 cattle and 600 calves.

After an irregular opening,
pools resumed operations. Buy-
ing operations picked up as the
session progressed, trading was
much, smaller ’ than recently.
"5 While gains in leaders like
’ United States 'Steel, American
Can. Telephone and Standard Oil
of New Jersey generally were
limited to fractions, advances of
seversl points occurred among
the less prominent issues. Msny
reached their best levels of the
year.
Such rail stocks as Pennsyl-
vania, Louisville & Nashville and
Atlantic Coast Line showed im-
pressive strength, the latter two
reaching new highs. Lackawan-
ns and New York Central, re-
cent leaders, were unable to bet-
ter their previous closing levels.
Signs of ‘pobt" activity were
apparent in the silk, tobacco and
aviation stocks. Many stocks in
these groups made sharp gains.
Farm equipment issues were im-
proved despite irregular tenden-
cies in grain and cotton prices. •
