HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
1 WHEREAS, The Coyle Middle School Band of the Garland
2 Independent School District has earned international recognition
3 with its .-eceipt. of the, prestigious Sudler Silver Cup award% for
4 2003; and
5 WHEREAS, Awarded by the John Philip Sousa Foundation, the cup
6 was established to recognize junior high school and middle school
7 concert band programs throughout the United States and: Canada that
8 have demonstrated exemplary standards of excellence over a period
9 of at least seven years under the:same conductor; and
10 WHEREAS, Only an elite few have received the Sudler Cup
11 during thel award's 19-year history, and by attaining such a
12 distinction the Coyle band has achieved a truly remarkable feat;
14 WHEREAS, The .band's stellar director, Marcia Zo.futto, has
15 consistently inspired her young musicians to perform at the highest
16 level, and for her vital role in winning. the Sudler Cup, her name,
17 along with that of the school, will be engraved on :the silver: cup's
18 base; in addition, each band member will receive a handsome
19 individualized diploma as a fitting memento of their
20 ac omplishment; and
21 WHEREAS, A tremendous source of pride to the students and
22 faculty of Coyle Middle School and to the citizens of Rowlett, the
23 band and Ms. Zotutto have thoroughly exemplified the qualities of
24 commitment and perseverance necessary to be considered this
