HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
1 WHEREAS, Dr. Claude Thomas and the congregation of First
2. Baptist Church Euless celebrated the church's centennial of service
3 to the. community on May 1 and 2, 2004; and
4 WHEREAS, The church traces its roots to March 26, 1904, when
5 Tarrant County missionary J. T. Bussey convened.an organizational
6 meeting at the home of Charles Fitch, for the purpose of starting a
7 missionary Baptist church; in attendance were E. J. and Mattie
8 Baucom, G. H. and Susan Himes, D. B. and Mary Baker, H. V. Booher,
9 Jennie Fitch, Ida Youngblood, Mollie, Martin, M. A. Jernigan, and
10 Charles Fitch; and
11 WHEREAS, Throughout its notable history, First Baptist
12 Church Euless has relocate ed and .expanded to: keep pace -with the
13 congregation's steady growth, and its members have greatly
"14 benefited from the leadership of a host of dedicated pastors who
15 have brought vision and positive change to this close-knit
16 community; and
17 WHEREAS, Since .answering the call to the pastorate of the
18 church in 1992, Dr. Thomas has led thedynamic First Baptist Church
19 Euless congregation,. supporting an array of worthy ministries and
20 special events of ..benefit to- church members and the wider
21 community; located" on :approx imately 2 0 acres at :100 0 West Airport
22 Freeway, the church's physical plant provides ample room for the
23 diverse opportunities. offered :to its membership, which today
24 ex ceeds 14,000 c ongr egants; and
