Proceedings of the annual meeting of the Philosophical Society of Texas held on February 3-5, 2012, including a list of attendees, text of addresses, changes to membership, and biographical information about members who have passed.
Originally founded in 1837 by noted Texas figures including Sam Houston and Mirabeau B. Lamar, the Philosophical Society of Texas was revived in 1937 at the time of the Texas Centennial as a membership discussion group. Toward that end, the Society holds an Annual Meeting for its members to host a focused discussion on a primary topic of relevance to Texas, ranging from politics, history, and the arts to education and the natural world. Since 1937, the Proceedings of each meeting are printed and distributed to members and publicly available through university and college libraries statewide and online, fulfilling the Society's pledge to support the “collection and diffusion of knowledge.”
