HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
1 WHEREAS, It is a distinct pleasure to welcome the delegation
2 from Eagle Pass to Austin on March 5, 2003, for Eagle Pass Day at the
3 State Capitol; and
4 WHEREAS, Named El Paso del Aguila because of the frequent
5 flights of Mexican eagles over the area, Eagle Pass is the county
6 seat for Maverick County; located on the border with Mexico and
7 settled during the mid-19th century, it has a fascinating history
8 and is an important gateway between Mexico and the United States;
9 and
10 WHEREAS, A favorite of tourists from across the state, Eagle
11 Pass has several points of historic significance, including Fort
12 Duncan Park and San Juan Plaza; those who enjoy the outdoors may
13 spend the day at Maverick County Lake, and sister city Piedras
14 Negras offers a bustling outdoor marketplace and the rustic charm
15 of old Mexico; and
16 WHEREAS, With its promising economy consisting of industry,
17 tourism, and recreation, as well as being a good place to retire,
18 Eagle Pass occupies an enviable position among the cities of
19 Southwest Texas; moreover, city and county governments, in
20 coordination with the Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce, are committed
21 to the expansion and development of this community's many
22 resources, including local infrastructure improvements,
23 construction of an international trade and convention center, and
24 preservation of historic sites; and
